The Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) is a not-for-profit Corporation dedicated to the discovery, development and deployment of clean technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and assist Alberta in adapting to climate change. CCEMC is offering $60M in funding to solutions that focus on greening energy production and carbon capture and storage through the April 2011 Call for Proposals with a maximum contribution to an individual project of $10M.

Prix Can-Am Amity Award

This award was established by the ASCE in 1972 by the initiative and endowment of James A. Vance. The objective of the Can-Am Amity award is to give recognition to those civil engineers who have made outstanding and unusual contribution toward the advancement of professional relationships between the civil engineers of the United States and Canada.

I am the coach for my son Layne’s Timbit Canadiens hockey team (ages 4-6). Being involved in kids' sports is a valuable part of being a parent and contributing to the community and a spin-off is business development opportunities.

Lia Thiesmann of the Calgary Natural Science Group left for Ethiopia this week and will be there over the next two weeks. She is the seventh EBA staff member to visit the country since 2006 as part of EBA's 10-year commitment to support the charitable activities of Partners in the Horn of Africa. These include water protection sites, footbridges, school upgrades, health posts, orphanages and reforestation plots. She left armed with a fistful of pens and other items for the children she encounters. Thankfully, it is still the dry season there and temperatures range from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius.
